Cub Bucs

A Cub Buc is special money from the Cubmaster. Cub Bucs should be saved and accumulated throughout the year. In January and April, Cub Bucs can be redeemed at the Cub Bucs Store for prizes (toys or candy). Keep track of your Bucs--lost Cub Bucs will not be replaced. They are also not transferrable between Scouts.

Cub Bucs are earned several ways:

1) By attending our service projects. We have a few projects available throughout the year, such as litter pickup and Scouting for Food. Other projects may be added during the year, as we are able to schedule them. Each participating Scout will earn a Cub Buc for attending and performing at a service project.

2) By coming early to Pack meetings and helping to set up until setup is complete. Please arrive at 6 PM. Arriving late or not helping the entire time until the room is set will disqualify you from earning a Cub Buc. You must sign in when you arrive; the sign-up sheet will only be out until 6:10, when it will removed by a leader. If you are not signed in by then, you are not eligible for a Cub Buc. You must also check in with the leader in charge before leaving at the end of the evening to receive your Cub Buc.

3) By showing up to Pack meetings in full uniform (Class A shirt, neckerchief, and slide) AND being on your best behavior during the meeting. (Exceptions to this are Pack meetings where you are told NOT to come in uniform, such as the Halloween Party Pack meeting.) Best behavior means not disrupting our leaders, speakers, or other Scouts with talking or getting out of your seat. Of the Scouts that are exhibiting their best behavior and are in proper uniform, up to 7 will be rewarded with a Cub Buc; these 7 will be selected at the Cubmaster’s discretion. If you were on your best behavior and in uniform and you are not picked at that meeting, please keep in mind that your hard work was noted and appreciated, and we hope to end up rewarding everyone at least once during the year if it is earned. (Parents, we're asking for your understanding on the distribution of the Pack meeting Bucs. Every child at the meeting would like to receive a Buc, and learning to deal with that disappointment will be part of this. Please help them to understand that doing their best at each meeting WILL pay off, and we hope they can learn good sportsmanship.)

4) Opportunities to earn Bucs will also present themselves throughout the year. We’ll need help at things like the Pinewood Derby setup and tear down. The Cubmaster will be checking in with the Den Leaders every so often to see who has shown improvement in behavior in den meetings. And during Crossover in March, Cub Bucs may even be doubled!

In summary, Cub Bucs are EARNED, not just given. The purpose of Cub Bucs is to help encourage our Scouts to participate in service projects, to give us their best when it comes to dressing properly for Pack meetings, helping us prepare the meeting space for Pack meetings (this is a lot of work when lots of people aren’t helping), and to be on your most respectful behavior during the Pack meetings. While toys and candy may be the motivating force for most of the Scouts, at the same time they’re learning to behave the way that is expected of a Scout.
